Pair Fine Hand Embroidered Crewelwork Fragments: C18th English
Item Details.
A pair of fine crewelwork embroidered fragments worked in various brightly coloured wools onto the original cotton twill ground which look like they are from pockets (probably made up into a garment at a later date?)
The embroidery dates from the 18th century circa. 1705- 1720 English, and is worked in worsted wools with florals and foliage with sinuous branches, trailing tendrils, rosebuds and carnations.
The pattern on the pieces echo each other and would benefit by being stretched and mounted which is a service we can offer from our dedicated conservation studio based in Gloucestershire. Please ask us for details.
Measurements:
Each panel: 34 x 17cm approx.
Condition.
In good antique condition with an overall patina of age and some foxing marks and raw edges. These pieces have all the idiosyncrasies of an aged and loved piece of cloth so small marks, stains and signs of wear are to be expected and are an inherent part of their charm.
