Qajar art refers to the art forms of the Qajar dynasty which lasted from 1781 t0 1925 in Iran (Persia).

The boom is artistic expression that occurred during the Qajar era was the side effect of the real-time peace that accompanied the rule of Agha Muhammad Khan and his descendants.

Most notably, Qajar art is recognisable for its distinctive style of portraiture. The roots of traditional Qajar painting can be found in the style of painting that arose during the previous Safavid empire. During this time, there was a great deal of European influence on the Persian culture, especially in the arts of the royalty and noble classes.

It was not until the 19th century that woman were portrayed with distinctive facial and body features. The posture and positions woman were placed in help to tell a story, woman often held objects such as mirrors, fruit or wine to represent beauty and pleasure.

This painting has a reclining woman in traditional dress of the period with two winged putti to her right. She sits in a curtained window with the view of a landscape in the distance.

Highly decorative the painting would work well in most interior settings.

It is in a time worn condition with numerous rubs and losses to the surface oil paint.
