Dating from the 18th century, probably French, an extremely fine, museum quality silk and wool tapestry panel.
With a central motif of intertwining golden serpents with bowers of fruits and flowers on either side the work in this small piece is of the highest quality.
The shading and colours of the fruits are like those in an oil painting, which makes this a work of art in its own right.
The panel would benefit by being stretched and mounted, a service we are pleased to be able to offer from our dedicated textile conservation studio. Please ask us for details.
Measurements:
53 x 11cm
Condition: Some slight wear to claret ground, nothing detrimental to the panel as a whole. some fine and hardly discernible historic mends to the claret ground.
