Antique Glazed Chintz Panel with Pheasants and Fruit Tree: C1815 Europe
Item Details.
One of my favourite purchases of this year, an early 19th century glazed chintz panel with pheasants under a fruiting tree.
The reverse side has a handstitched crazy patchwork made from silk dress fabrics with hand embroidered decoration.
They have been framed in a fine turquoise and black checked dress silk, so charming.
This textile would benefit by being stretched, mounted and possible framed in order to preserve it from further wear. Please ask us for details for this service and a quote.
Measurements.
35.5 x 41cm
Condition.
The chintz is in fairly good condition, the dark brown areas are fragile , probably due to the chemicals present in the dye. There are rubs and small losses to the outer edges of the checked silk ‘frame’.
All of the items we sell are antique and as such have all the idiosyncrasies of an old and loved textile, so small marks, stains and signs of wear are to be expected and are an inherent part of their charm.
