A wonderful hand embroidered horseshoe shaped needlepoint panel with floral motifs.
Hand worked in fine silk, wool and mercerised cotton in the Jacobean Revival style so popular from the late 1800s onwards.
Worked in gorgeous vibrant colours onto a cream ground, this panel would have been hung on an alter to cover a chalice.
The work is of the highest quality and it has been carefully kept out of sunlight which means the colours ar still as fresh as the day it was made.
It is backed in a pale apricot coloured hand spun linen and has been edged with a wide gold gilt metal braid, it is finished with a metal thread fringe which rounds around the sides and bottom.
