Item Details.

From our studio collection another wonderful antique printed wallhanging of a medieval 16th century French tapestry.

In lovely soft colours this panel depicts a landscape with a castle, figures and dogs, in what is probably a hunting scene, with the figures in medieval dress and on the top left hand side the monogram A.D.

This is a print of a medieval tapestry dating from the early 20th century. The label on the reverse translates as follows: ‘ This reproduction of a tapestry made by hand in our workshop is called L’affut. The original is kept at the Metropolitan Museum New York and was woven in the 16th century’. L’affut translates as The Lookout.

Its an excellent copy and dates from the early 20th century and has been printed onto a medium weight linen ground and is backed with a rustic canvas (applied later) which gives it a nice weight.

The hanging would suit most interior settings.

Measurements:
84 x 70 cm  (33 x 27 inches)

In excellent antique condition with a mend to the canvas backing and signs of slight wear around the outer edges. All as you’d expect in a textile of this age.
