Dating from the 18th-century and probably originating from, Lyon, this is an extraordinary and elaborate French silk brocaded panel .
Similar silks were often used for high-status purposes, luxury furnishing fabrics for French royal residences. We think this may have been designed as wall covering.
The panel features elaborate floral bouquets, including roses and pinks, framed by laurel-style leafy garlands and neoclassical scrollwork.
This style is closely associated with French textile designers like Jean-François Bony, who created intricate floral and arabesque patterns for the Mobilier National.
Historically, panels of this sumptuous quality were designated for Imperial Furnishings, commissioned for bedchambers or boudoirs in grand estates like Rambouillet or the Palace of Versailles. Decorative Panels, mounted as wall hangings or used in high-end antique upholstery.
