Rare Antique Floral Silk Pocket Book Envelope: C18th France
Item Details.
Handmade in a sky blue silk taffeta with silk floss and gold gilt embroidery this amazingly rare museum worthy 18th century floral envelope pocket book.
Dating from the 18th century and made in France in the underside of the flap is embroidered the The Gallic rooster (French: le coq gaulois) the national symbol of France, this may have been added at a later date(?)
The colours are as fresh as the day it was made which suggests it has been carefully stored away out of sunlight.
The purse fastens with a button and loop closure.
Measurements: 17 x 14 cm (6 3/4 x 5.5 inches)
Condition.
In excellent condition for an item of this antiquity. Never lined so can see how it was constructed and made. Some light wear and losses around corner and along edges.
