Traditional Folk Art Embroidered Pelmet with Urns of Flowers: C19th The Balkans

From The Balkans, this wonderful red-work hand embroiderd panel with mercerised cotton onto a fine hand loomed linen ground.

Probably made to celebrate a wedding, this was possibly a dowry piece, it has traditional folk art motifs of stylised vases of flowers and patterns passed down through generations.

The panel is finished along tge bottom edge with a handmade cotton lace.

This traditionaly would have been used to decorate a piece of furniture. It could be used as a small curtain on a glazed cupboard or door or applied to a piece of plain linen and used under a kitchen counter or on a window.

Measurements:
125cm L x 40.5cm W

Condition: In excellent antique condition with an over all patina of age and fading to the embroidery.
