Antique Block Printed & Hand Painted Quilted Wall Hanging: C19th, Kandili Turkey

Item Details.

From the Ottoman era a beautiful block printed cotton quilt printed in Kandili, an Asian suburb of Istanbul which formally had a significant Greek population where cotton printing went in and by which term these prints are popularly known.

Hand printed and painted onto a pretty pale sand colour with a traditional design of flowers and a hanging incense burner, the type that you find in a church or mosque. Originally used as a prayer mat or wall hanging.

Would suit a variety of interior settings and would work well as a small sofa throw or hung on a wall.

85 x 142 cm

Condition:
In good antique condition with an overall patina of age and wear consistent with age and use. Some minor fading and light historic stains, nothing that deters from the overall loveliness of this textile as a whole.
