Antique Appliqué Tree of Life Wallhanging: C20th India
Item Details.
From the turn of the 18th/19th century comes this wonderful tree of life hanging. Originating from Northwest India, this hanging would’ve been used in a doorway. Appliquéd onto a soft pale terracotta handloomed linen backing and using lovely soft earthy colours including yellow ochre. pale indigo blue and off-white.
Beautifully designed in a traditional manner using ancient symbols of fertility and prosperity this was most likely a wedding or Dowry piece made by the family for a bride.

43.5 x 66 inches (110 x 167 cm)
Condition.
Dating from the late 1800s to early 1900s, the panel is in good condition for a textile of this antiquity. There are some historic mends, a few small holes and tears, nothing that could not be mended or that detracts from the authenticity or loveliness of this very special piece.
