An original fine hand painted textile panel dating from the 18th century handmade in China for export to the fashionable aristocracy of Europe.

Beautiful and nowadays, very rare, this good size hand painted panel has been worked on an intricate hand woven summer weight gauze and dates from the first half of the 18th century circa 1730s.

Painted in China for the European market who used them to make dresses, we think this one may have been commissioned for room decor.

Fabrics of this type were typically patterned with images from nature and include floral designs and garlands of leaves, and butterflies.

I have only had one or two of this type before, they are extremely rare and each one is unique.

Condition:
Some marks and and signs of wear as you would expect in a panel from this antiquity. It deserves to be stretched and mounted, a service we can offer from our dedicated textile conservation studio.
