Rare antique zardozi embroidered textile roundel, possibly a religious hanging or decorative item depicting the sun god Surya Dev.
The style suggests a South Asian origin, possibly from the Deccan region of India.
Hand embroidered with gold gilt thread into a red velvet with extensive use of semi precious stones and sequins. The eyes are made from white opaque handpainted glass.
The central figure with eyes and a third eye on the forehead is characteristic iconography of Surya Dev in Hindu art.
Such items were often used as wall hangings in homes or temples, or as part of ceremonial attire or decoration.
