An fine fragment/panel of appliquéd and embroidered wool broadcloth from Rescht, Persia first half 19th century.

Hand embroidered in silks onto a fine wool broadcloth, possibly from the Stroud woollen mills, where it is still produced to this day.

The appliqué pieces are carefully and accurately inset into the ground rather than sitting on top, a skilled technique for which Rescht is famous.

This panel has been stretched and mounted onto conservation board, and is ready to be hung or framed.

It is in good antique condition with one historic mend, a careful patch on the bottom right hand side edge. The panel has an overall patina of age and some slight fading as you would expect for a textile from this era.
