Early Silk Velvet and Leather Gaming Purse: C17th English
Gaming purse of garnet red silk velvet lined in dark red leather with woven silk drawstrings dating from the 17th century.
These special purses were for use at the gaming table, to hold money of counters.
A flat circular base with sides gathers on a drawstring prevented spilling or revealing the contents.
In good antique condition with some losses and signs of wear to the silk velvet, particularly around the bottom edge, as to be expected in an antique item of this antiquity.
