Rare Hand Embroidered Silk Bodice and Partial Skirt : C18th Gujarat India for export to Europe

Item Details.

Dating from the second half 18th century this beautiful pale yellow silk bodice with part of the skirt. Embroidered with a scattering of tiny and perfect floral motifs in magenta pinks which contrast beautifully with the yellow silk.

Hand embroidered in Gujarat, India and then exported to the fashion conscious European market the silk would have been purchased and then made up by a seamstress in Europe to a customers requirements.

This is a collectors item/museum piece it is not for wearing.

Condition:
The silk on the underside of the sleeves has splits and there are some splits throughout the skirt panel. Some of the skirt panels are missing. There are some light water marked on the bodice.
