Ottoman Goldwork Embroidered Velvet Jacket and Harem Pants: C19th Turkey

Item Details.
A traditional Ottoman era black silk velvet jacket and harem pants with rich gold gilt embroidery dating from the late 19th century.

Made in a traditional style with embroidered patterns and motifs passed down through the generations.

A cropped bolero style jacket with wide harem pants both with wrapped gold thread embroidered motifs.

The jacket is covered in embroidered floliate motifs running in diagonals with delightful coiled thread work flowers with sequin detailing.

The sides and ankle cuffs on the harem pants are decorated which must have looked spectacular by candle light.

The jacket is fully lined and an elasticated waist has been added at a later date to the pants.

Condition:
There is some we’re to the surface if the velvet as you would expect in an item of clothing if this antiquity. The gold thread had discoloured and has an overall patina of age.
