antique Chinese Embroidered Silk Brocade Summer Robe Coat
Item Details.
This beautiful but timeworn ultra fine oyster silk summer coat or robe was made in the 19th century in China.
It has lovely silk embroidery of floral motifs and butterflies carried out by an expert crafts person probably from one of the many workshops centered around Canton at this time.
The ground silk is a extremly fine traditional tissue silk brocade in an oyster colour. the robe is lined with a deep salmon sil which shines thought the oyster silk giving ot a slightly pinky hue.
The hand embroidered motifs of flowers and butterflies in flight have been worked in varying shades of indigo blue.

Made in the 1800’s.

Condition.
A wounded beauty this coat has multiple splits, mends, and some light stains. There are loose threads and bindings, replacement buttons. We are selling this as a study piece. There’s panels of embroidery that could be salvaged, stretched and mounted.
