Antique Ecclesiastical Embroidered Lamé Chasuble: C19th France
An unusual hand embroidered chasuble, from France and dating from the 19th century.
Worked on a yellow lamé with wools, the embroidery is the work of a highly skilled needle woman, and like the present day, the best was saved for the church.
The chasuble is lined in a mauve cotton sateen which contrast beautifully with the yellow lamé.
This would be a great display piece, for study or a useful addition to a collection.
The front and back panels lend themselves to being stretched and mounted ready for framing. This is a service we are pleased to be able to offer from our dedicated textile conservation studios. Please ask us for details.
