An Art Deco appliqué Egyptian revival wallhanging, made in Cairo in the early 1900s to sell to collectors and tourists during the craze which swept the world as the tombs in the Valley of the Kings were being discovered and ‘Egyptomania’ caught everyone’s imagination.

Depicting stylised portraits of Egyptian gods, one we think is of Isis, godess of the sky, magic and wisdom.

The appliqué is in good antique condition with an overall patina of age, some minor losses, signs of wear and marks, all as you’d expect in textiles of this antiquity and nothing at all detrimental to the overall loveliness of these hanging.
