Antique Eighteenth Century Rococo Silk Brocade Panels: C18th Lyon, France
We have five panels of this authentic 18th-century woven silk brocade, a luxury textile popular in the 1700s. The piece features delicate, winding trails of stylized botanical motifs and large shaded blossoms typical of mid-18th century Georgian design.
Historically, such intricately figured silks were woven by highly specialised master weavers in centres like Spitalfields, London or Lyon, France.
Because of their immense cost and beauty, these fabrics were primarily commissioned for elite court fashion, such as the grand mantua or sack-back gowns.
