Antique Hand Painted Silk Panel Section of Wing: C17th Italy
Item Details.
This is an extraordinarily rare textile!
Dating from the 17th century and from Italy, it looks like it was possibly once part of a larger wallhanging or banner, probably made to hang in a church.
Made from a yellow silk satin that has been painted with pinky red in a cuvilinear design to suggest part of a wing? With shading and movement whatever it was part of, its spectacular.
The painted sections have been outlined in silk braiding to give them definition and depth.
The reverse is lined in a fairly rough handwoven linen and has “ Immenzo al Caprelane No 1 “ hand scribed in ink.
