Antique Handmade ‘Orange Peel’ Patchwork Quilt: C19th England
This is a wonderful antique patchwork quilt featuring the classic "Orange Peel" block pattern, handmade using 19th century dress fabrics.
The quilt has been constructed using appliqué, where fabric shapes are stitched onto a base fabric, forming flower-like motifs.
The blocks consist of curved petal shapes arranged in a repeating grid pattern. It has a timeless, romantic aesthetic, commonly found in traditional American quilting.
It has been handmade made from cotton fabrics in a variety of patterns and colors, mainly dress fabrics dating from the early to mid 19th century:
Measurements: 215 x 180cm
Condition:
In good antique condition for a quilt from this era. Some overall fading and loose threads. The outer border is a later addition, and there was a backing made from a sheet which we have removed as it was too small and pulled on the edges.
