Item Details.
Dating from the early 20th century this unique unused handmade needlepoint tapestry of The Lady and The Unicorn which is a copy of one of the famous 16th century tapestries which hang in The Musee Cluny, Paris.
Five of the six original tapestries depict the five senses, taste, hearing, sight, smell and this one which depicts touch. The lady is depicted touching the horn of a unicorn, with the other holding up a pennant. A lion sits to the side and looks on. The last photograph is the original.
Hand embroidered in wools dyed with natural dyes in a lovely colourway which would suit most interiors. The needlework has never been used and would benefit by being stretched and mounted, a service we can offer from our professional textile conservation studio.
