Antique Indienne Floral Printed Cotton Textile : C19th France

This fabric is a classic 18th-century French Indienne design, heavily inspired by the hand-painted and block-printed cotton chintz textiles that were imported from India to Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries.

The pattern features signature botanical motifs, including stylized blooming peonies, pomegranate-like seed pods, detailed trailing vines, and small paisley elements.

The color palette is highly characteristic of traditional natural dye techniques, combining deep madder reds, soft dusty pinks, and indigo blues over an aged, warm khaki mustard cotton ground.

The layout features repeating bouquets and sprigs of stylized exotic blossoms. This style stems from historic Indian "Tree of Life" motifs that heavily influenced European decor from the 17th century onward.

Fine stippled and undulating linework runs between the floral clusters, giving the pattern the distinct look of traditional woodblock or archival copperplate printing.
