Antique Art Nouveau Velvet Coat with Embroidered Sleeves and Hood: C1900 British
Item Details.
Dating from the Art Nouveau era, around 1900 this incredible Pre-Raphaelite full length hand embroidered coat with hood. Made with fabric embroidered in Kashmir for the fashionable European market it has then been made up in England.
The wonderful puffed sleeves, hood and single decorative button have all been made from a wonderful fine black wool with cream embroidery which was handmade in Kashmir, Northern India for export to Europe. The main body of the coat is black velvet and the hood is detachable.
You can easily imagine this in a painting by John Singer Sargent or worn by a Pre - Raphaelite beauty.

Condition.
In very good condition for a coat dating from this era the lining shows signs of wear and would benefit from being professionally cleaned.
