Antique Silk Child’s Cap with Silver Thread Embroidery: Early C18th Europe
Item Details.
Dating from the first half of the 18th Century and from Europe, a babies or small child’s cap made in a pretty pale plum colour silk satin with silver thread embroidery.
The bonnet has been lined throughout in a soft hand woven loose-weave cotton which has been quilted and the cap has been edged in a pale yellow silk ribbon.
The floral motifs which decorate the cap have been hand embroidered in real silver thread with cream infills.
We think this bonnet would have been made for a special occasion, possibly a wedding as the materials used would have been very expensive.
