Antique Traditional Costume Block Print Child’s Bonnet: C19th Marken, Holland

Item Details.
This is extraordinary! From a collection of block printed, hand painted chintz babies bonnets from Marken, The Netherlands circa 1800's to 1900. These bonnets were part of the traditional costume from this area of Holland which was very distinctive.

This bonnet is in a delightful indigo blue and red block printed floral chintz , with a taupe and white woven trim all around the edge, you can still see remains of what is lefts of the polished surface on the chintz. We believe the lining has been replaced at a later textile. It would have been worn over a white lace muslin cap (please see photos for reference).

We have 6 of these museum worthy bonnets in our collection, each unique and special in their own way. All are listed in our shop, they would make a lovely collection if purchased together.

8 3/4 inches along bottom edge. (22.5 cm)
5.5cm inches top to base (14 cm)

Condition.
The bonnets have some signs of age, minor marks and tiny flaws, nothing which is detrimental to the overall loveliness of each piece.
