Art Deco Silk Embroidered Coat with Peacock Feathers: C1910 Britain

Dating from the Arts and Crafts era, around 1910-20 this silk embroidered coat with peacock feathers. The surface of the coat is entirely covered in hand embroidery and has a design with stylised peacock feathers.
This wonderful coat shouts “Art Deco”, everything about it, the shape, the design, is so typical of the period. The coat has been embroidered in a mixture of things mercerised cotton, wool and silk which gives it different textures and which catch the light when you move.
The design of the coat is heavily influenced by the discoveries of the tombs in Egypt at this time in history and has an exotic other worldly feel.
Made in a loose unfitted style which was so popular at the time and which offered woman a freedom that they had not experienced for many years when having to squeeze their bodies into corsets.
The coat is fully lined in cream silk.

Condition.
In very good condition for a coat dating from this era. Some light marks and loose stitches as you would expect in an item of this antiquity.
