A vintage soft blockprinted, wall hanging.
Produced in India around 1960 these hangings were inspired by Indian Palampores and chintzes and were produced to meet the European demand for this popular type of exotic wall decoration which was much in demand. Depicting a tree of life, with various wild animals and exotic birds.
Printed onto fine loose weave cotton muslin ground in a light fresh colour way of pinks, yellows, reds and mauve. Completely block printed by hand each of these hangings was unique and has its own character.
Condition:
In good condition for a domestic textile from this era. some small holes, catches and losses. Nothing detrimental to the hanging as a whole.
