Charming Appliquéd Still Life with Early 18th Century Silk Embroidered Flowers, Bird and Fruit: C1910 English
The minute I saw this I knew it was special.
Scrawled on the reverse card and barely legible was ‘Hand embroidery worked on a cream silk bedspread around 1720’.
Handmade by somone with a good eye around 1910-20, they have carefully cut the silk embroidered slips and arranged them onto a linen background with silk foreground to form this charming appliquéd still life with bird.
We carefully removed the frame, which did not do the piece justice) and the corrugated cardboard backing in order to clean the appliquéd still life (in our textile conservation studio)
The still life is now ready to be framed and hung somewhere special, preferably out of direct sunlight. We have photographed the still life in a gold gilt frame and a folk art frame, both are available please ask us for details and a price.
