Embroidered Silk Chinese Dragon Robe Opera or Theatre: Qing (Ch’ing) Dynasty C1900 China
Dating from the late early 20th century circa 1900 Qing Dynasty, a hand embroidered silk dragon robe from China. Probably intended for theatrical performance, or Chinese Opera.
Made from a scarlet red silk satin it has been embellished with couched gilt wrapped thread and silk floss embroidery. It has large dragon motifs on both the front and the back which wrap around the body in a sinuous reptilian fashion.
The bottom of the robe has wonderful water motifs and others chinese symbolism. The robe has been lined throughout with a pale, sky blue chinese silk brocade.
In excellent antique condition with some loose threads as you would expect in an antique costume from this era. All of the items we sell are antique and as such have the idiosyncrasies of old and loved items that have been loved, worn and used.
