Collectable Antique Early Silhouette Portrait of Child in Pretty Toleware Frame: C18th Britain
Item details:
The tradition of silhouette making is ancient. It became highly popular in the mid 18th century, and they represented a cheap but alternative to the portrait miniature. Skilled and specialist artists could cut a high - quality bust portrait in a matter of minutes.
This Sillouette we are offering is from a collection all dating from the 18th century and with recognisable and fashionable hair styles from the period, it is of a child, a boy with shoulder length hair and a large collar which was the fashion of the day.
Some of the portraits details have been highlighted with a deep gold wash.
We have presented this portrait in an oval glazed toleware frame.
