Designer Mid Century Art Textile Tibor Reich Collectable: C1964 Stratford-Upon-Avon, England
This print, ‘Age of Kings’, was commissioned by The Birthplace Trust to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeares birth 1564 - 1964.
Designed by Tibor Reich a Hungarian born designer, and produced by his company Tibor Ltd, Stratford-on-Avon in 8 colourways - this has to be my favourite version in dark greys, greens and taupes.
The design has a wonderfully painterly ‘deep textured’ quality, and the 8 King of England represented, each have a different character. Reich depicts the kingship, battle and heraldry that resonate throughout Shakespeare’s plays.
The blue and green version of this print were originally commissioned and used as curtains in the newly designed Shakespeare Centre on Henley Street. Please see ref. photo of them hanging in The Stratford Room in the newly designed centre.
