Magenta Pink Embroidered Bedcover with Oriental Scenes and Figures : C1900 China
Dating from around 1900/1910 and hand embroidered in China a large magenta pink silk bed cover, canopy or wall hanging.
Probably made for export to the European market this bedcover is unusual in that it is all one colour story, a beautiful magenta pink with the silk embroidery worked in a slightly lighter shade of pink.
Within an all over decorative repeating lattice work pattern there is a central oval shaped roundel busy with depictions of oriental figures placed in various scenes with bridges, pagodas, peacocks and a larger central figure of obvious importance.
The roundel is placed within a secondary inner embroidered frame which has, in each corner, a decorative Chinese basket overflowing with flowers which spill towards the central image drawing the eye inwards.
The bedcover has been finished with a hand knotted tasseled fringe which runs around all four sides.
In good antique condition with a sensitively executed historic mends. All of our carefully chosen textiles and costume are antique and as such have all of the idiosyncrasies of aged and loved items, so small marks, flaws, and signs of wear are an inherent part of their charm.
