Ottoman Antique Silk Reverse Appliqué & Silver Thread Embroidered Bedcover: C1910 Turkey

Item Details.
On my travels I have had the privilege to see and buy some beautiful textiles. This is no exception- from the Silk Road comes this gorgeous hand embroidered and cutwork silk marriage bedcover.

Made in Asia, probably Turkey in the first half of the 20th century, these Ottoman silk embroidered bedcovers were produced for the best homes and gave an air of opulent luxury which was, and still is, so popular.

Made with a top layer of pale oyster colour silk which has a complicated design cut into it, it has then been backed with net to allow the pink silk lining to show through (reverse appliqué). The cover has also been embroidered with real silver wrapped thread to further enhance the design. The cover has been finished with a fine lace and pinked silk decorative edge.

This gorgeous bedcover would suit both modern or more traditional interiors.

Condition:
There are some marks where something which may be removed with specialist cleaning. An all over patina of age as to be expected in a domestic textile from this era.
