A pair of incredible hand block printed linen curtains came from an Arts and Crafts house in Devon England.

These wouldn’t have looked out of place in, Charleston,the house of The Bloomsbury set.

Dating from the early 1900s and made by hand the print design is a simple two shades of red on a cream linen ground.

The leaf-and-stem central motifs are simplified and graphic rather than purely realistic, a defining element of late 19th and early 20th-century decorative arts.

The use of fine vertical background lines combined with solid rust/madder red ink block-printed textile emphasises the organic textures celebrated by the movement.

The undulating, scalloped lines that bracket the plant motifs create a cohesive, repeating rhythm that is highly characteristic of Arts and Crafts wallpapers and upholstery textiles.

92cm wide x 205cm long

Condition:

In good antique condition, some slight fading down the outer edges. A few sensitively executed historic mends.
