Pair of Antique Gilt-work Embroidered Velvet Slippers: C19th Turkey
From Turkey a pair of fine hand embroidered off-white leather slippers dating from the 19th century.
Handmade from cream leather which has been embroidered with traditional stumpwork metal thread work which incorporates coils of silver and gold metal thread twisted and wrapped around a linen thread which is then applied as here, to created floral and other decorative motifs.
Finished with pale pink and white floss silk pompoms, these slippers were probably made for a wedding or similar ceremony.
Highly collectible and decorative they would be a great addition to a collection or for costume study purposes.
They are in hardly worn condition, some minor rubs to soles, an over all patina of age as you would expect in an item of this antiquity.
