Pair of Arts and Crafts Hand Painted Ecclesiastical Appliqués: C1900 French
A pair of hand painted ecclesiastical appliqués dating from around 1900. Hand painted onto silk satin and then embroidered with applied gold thread work.
The work is beautifully executed and they are in such excellent condition they look as though they have never been used.
Probably made to be sewn onto a chasuble or banner, they originate from France.
A little research tells us that one clearly depicts Christ, and the other looks like a crusader or possibly a king, Ricard the Lionheart(?)
These would look really good mounted and framed, something that we specialise in at our dedicated conservation studios, please ask us for details.
Christ: 22cm L X 15.5cm W
Crusader: 17.5cm L X 17cm W
