Rococo Silk Brocade Bonnet: C18th France
Dating from the mid 1700’s an interesting pale pink silk brocade (possibly Lyon?) bonnet or headdress, possibly part of some traditional dress.
The bonnet is European, most probably French, and has a rather interesting and unusual form and shape.
It is covered in a lovely and bold early 18th century silk brocade which is beautifully pattern matched down the centre back seam.
The brim or part of the bonnet that hugs the head at the front has a wide hand worked silver gilt band that echoes the gilt thread running through the silk brocade.
The bonnet is lined in a surprisingly course hand woven era, white and blue checked cotton fabric.
In good antique condition with some signs of wear especially to the outer edge of the brim where the silk has perished. The bonnet has an overall patina of age as to be expected in an item of costume of this antiquity.
