Traditional Embroidered Suzani Wallhanging: C20th Uzbekistan

Dating from the first quarter of the 20th century this nice sized hand embroidered suzani from Uzbekistan.

These wall hangings we’re traditionally made by groups of woman and use traditional symbolic motifs and designs passed down through the generations.

This suzani may have been intended for use as a prayer hanging or mat. It has been hand embroidered in beautiful soft coloured vegetable dyed silks onto a lightweight off white cotton ground. 

The colour palette of this textile mean it would work well in most interior settings.

Measurements:

136cm L x 113cm W

Each roundel measure between 22 + 24 cm across.

Condition:

 In good antique condition, a scattering of tiny holes and some sensitively executed historic mends. Nothing that detracts from the overall loveliness of this textile. All of the textiles we sell are antique and as such may have idiosyncrasies , small flaws, signs of wear and an o really patina of age and use which are to be expected in antique textiles and are part of their history and charm.
