Handmade Decoupaged Antique Frame with Copy of 17th Century Portrait: Frame C19th, France.
We combined these for a photo shoot and still really like the marriage of the two pieces.
The antique wooden picture frame was found in the small village of Carpentras awhile back. Made by a local artisan who spends hours cutting and applying 19th century antique wall papers and in this case share coupons, as well, to cover the frame. A wonderful and inventive use of the typical Provence designs & divine colours of the papers.
The painting is a contemporary copy of "Portrait Of Margaret Layton Of Rawdon" (1579-1641) which has the most extraordinary rendition of her embroidered costume and lace ruff.
You could keep this painting in the frame or perhaps use it for your own artwork, a beautiful textile or drawing.
