From the 1920s Art Deco era this stunning printed silk with an incredible design with cranes flying across the moon.
For such a simple and graphic design there is extraordinary movement in this print.
In Japan, the crane (known as tsuru) is the revered "bird of happiness" symbolizing good fortune, longevity, and peace.
Because they are monogamous, they also represent loyalty and fidelity. An ancient belief claims cranes live for 1,000 years, making them a cornerstone of Japanese mythology and art.
This finest silk panel has been woven on a narrow loom as it is selvedge to selvedge. An extremly fine and rare museum quality antique textile.
