Antique American Six Pointed String Star Patchwork Quilt with Provenance: C19th, Missouri, USA
Item Details.
An extraordinary handmade six pointed string star quilt made in the late 19th - early 20th century by Cynthia Ann Bergner of Cedar Hill, Missouri (1858 - 1936)
Its great to have the provenance of this beautiful quilt which can be found on a label stitched onto the reverse. We know who the owner was (Minnie Schmidtberger) as well as the maker, and exactly where it was made!
The quilt has been hand stitched from a myriad of 19th dress weight cottons including striped, checked, and sprigged cottons along with pretty indigo blue and defined with Turkey red cotton which gives the pattern definition and is also used to border the quilt.
The quilts backing is a lightweight printed cotton with a paisley design.
Measurements:
187 x 213cm
Condition.
The quilt is in very good antique condition with some rubs and losses to the surface of some of the thinner dress fabrics.
These could easily be replaced and or repaired.
All of the textiles we sell are genuine antiques and may have some the idiosyncrasies and small flaws that you would expect in an antique textile.
