Victorian Circus Performers Costume and Shoes: C1870 France
Dating from the 1870s, an original circus performers ensemble comprising of a bodice, skirt with bustle back and matching shoes.
Made from a finely striped emerald green silk which has been covered with old silver sequins which would have caught and glittered in the candle light beautifully.
The bodice is fully lined in cotton and has internal boning and fastens down the back with hooks and eyes. The skirt has an adjustable drawstring waist and is fully lined in a sea green cotton finished with ruffles.
The costume is in good antique condition, some missing sequins, loose threads and a few minor marks to lace. Some discolouration under the arms of the bodice on the lining, nothing that shows in the outside. The silk satin covering on the shoes shows signs of wear and the back of the left hand shoe has some colour run.
