A traditional quilted and embroidered silk woman’s dress from Pashtun people, Eastern Afghanistan, C19th with later, 20th century paisley design printed cotton breast insert.
The dress is made from a ravishing magenta handwoven silk with appliquéd decoration in fuchsia pink and old gold. Appliquéd decorative elements around hem worked in old gold braids and enhanced with sequins - possibly a later 20th century addition.
Fully quilted, and lined throughout with a soft brushed pinky/terracotta cotton.
Good overall condition with some light marks and staining and some crumbling of silk to left hand side of bodice.
Measurements:
Across bodice when lying flat: 42cm
